The Single Wire Interface Module (SWIM) is used for STM8 microcontrollers, while the Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interface is used for STM32 devices. For STM8 applications, the ST-LINK V2 connects via a USB full-speed interface and integrates seamlessly with development tools such as ST Visual Develop (STVD), ST Visual Programmer (STVP), and IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 (IAR EWSTM8).
For STM32 applications, the same USB interface supports popular IDEs including Atollic TrueSTUDIO, IAR Embedded Workbench, Keil MDK, and Tasking.
