The DeadOn RTC Breakout is a comprehensive kit that encloses all the necessary components required to count time, communicate, and maintain power. All the communication and power pins are broken out to a single, 7-pin header. The board’s top side houses the IC itself along with a few supporting passives.
The bottom side of the breakout labels the pins and mounts the 12mm coin cell battery holder:
EXAMPLE CIRCUIT

HARDWARE HOOKUP
Before you connect the DeadOn RTC Breakout to your microcontroller or insert it into a breadboard, you will need to solder something to the 7-pin header. It is recommended to use straight male headers for breadboarding. Alternatively, female headers or a few strips of wire can be used as well. If you plan to solder headers, it is better to insert the pins into the “top” side of the board. This will help maintain access to the battery and ensure a clear view of the labels.
