Description

The ST-LINK V2 is an in-circuit programmer and debugger designed for the STM8 and STM32 families of microcontrollers. It provides a stable and reliable communication bridge between a PC-based development environment and the target microcontroller on the application board, making firmware programming and debugging faster, easier, and more efficient.

Communication with the target device is handled through dedicated debug interfaces. The Single Wire Interface Module (SWIM) is used for STM8 microcontrollers, while the Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interface is used for STM32 devices. These interfaces allow direct access to the microcontroller for firmware downloading, memory access, and real-time debugging.

For STM8 applications, the ST-LINK V2 connects via a USB full-speed interface and integrates seamlessly with development tools such as ST Visual Develop (STVD), ST Visual Programmer (STVP), and IAR Embedded Workbench for STM8 (IAR EWSTM8).
For STM32 applications, the same USB interface supports popular IDEs including Atollic TrueSTUDIO, IAR Embedded Workbench, Keil MDK, and Tasking.
