Resistors commonly include three to six bars that indicate resistance, tolerance, and, in certain circumstances, temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Because this calculator supports resistors with five bands, we’ll go through the 5-Band Resistor Colour Code System.
In a 5-band resistor color code scheme, the first three bands reflect the resistance value’s significant digits, the fourth band represents the multiplier, and the fifth band represents the tolerance.
Resistor Color Code Chart
The Resistor Color Code Chart is a crucial tool for deciphering resistor codes. Like a chemist relies on the periodic table, you’ll use this chart extensively. It contains the information needed to calculate resistance values, which we’ll explore in examples later on.
