These long-lasting (but low-cost!) gear motors (also known as ‘TT’ motors) are a simple and low-cost approach to get your ideas going. This is a 1:120 gear ratio double-shaft TT motor 1:120 DC Gear Motor. As a result, they have more torque but a slower rotational speed. Because they are slower, they are appropriate for robots where strength is more critical than speed.
They resemble our yellow all-plastic-gear motors, but they have all of the motor gears machined from steel, so they won’t strip as readily, and they’re twice as sluggish (but twice as powerful) due to the lower gear ratio. Because of the metal gears, they are also noisier when running.
These motors can be powered from 3VDC to 6VDC, with the higher voltages obviously moving quicker. When we ran a motor from a bench-top source, we discovered these figures.
