The WeMos D1 R2 is a wireless microcontroller development board based on the ESP8266 WiFi module. It’s designed to work seamlessly with the Arduino IDE, making it easy for creators to harness WiFi capabilities. It essentially transforms the ESP8266 module into a full-fledged development platform. The board’s design follows the Arduino Uno and Leonardo standards, allowing for compatibility with existing Arduino shields through standard Arduino headers.
Equipped with a CH340 USB to serial interface, the development board can be directly connected to a computer for programming and communication. All you need is a micro USB cable – no additional hardware setup or configuration is necessary. After installing the required drivers, the WeMos D1 will appear as a standard serial COM port on your computer. You can program it directly using the Arduino IDE, which can be freely downloaded from the Arduino website (arduino.cc).
In essence, the WeMos D1 R2 serves as a bridge between the ESP8266 WiFi module and the Arduino environment. It enables easy development and programming of WiFi-connected projects using familiar tools and a straightforward interface.
