A noteworthy feature of this module is its inclusion of a potentiometer, which grants users the ability to fine-tune a threshold level for moisture detection. The module’s robustness is ensured by the use of a waterproof sensor probe endowed with exceptional corrosion resistance. This design choice guarantees a minimum operational lifespan of six months when deployed in soil environments. The probe’s high resilience ensures reliable performance over extended periods.
At the core of the moisture sensor module lies the LM393 Comparator IC, which operates as a voltage comparator. Within the module’s circuitry, pin 2 of the LM393 is connected to a 10KΩ potentiometer (preset), while pin 3 is linked to the moisture sensor pin. The comparator IC’s role involves comparing the threshold voltage set via the potentiometer (pin 2) with the voltage originating from the moisture sensor (pin 3).
The moisture sensor itself comprises two probes that serve to detect soil moisture. These probes are coated with immersion gold, a protective layer that safeguards the underlying nickel from oxidation. These specialized probes play a crucial role in the moisture-sensing process. By transmitting current through the soil and subsequently measuring the resistance encountered, the sensor extracts valuable moisture data, providing an accurate representation of the soil’s moisture content.
