In its analog mode, the sensor’s output signal varies in proportion to the water level. The value typically starts at 0 when there is no water and increases as the water level rises. This analog output can be connected to an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) or microcontroller to obtain precise water level measurements.

When configured as a digital device with the help of a pull-up resistor, the sensor essentially acts as a binary switch. In this mode, it provides a high or low signal, indicating whether water is present or not. The pull-up resistor ensures that the signal remains high when there is no water, and it goes low when water touches the sensor, completing the circuit and changing the signal state.
