The DS3231 is a low-cost, highly accurate clock that uses I2C communication. It has a built-in temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. This clock can run on a battery when the main power is off and still maintain precise timekeeping.
The DS3231 comes in different temperature ranges and packaging options. It keeps track of seconds, minutes, hours, days, dates, months, and years, adjusting for months with fewer than 31 days and leap years. It can display time in either 24-hour or 12-hour format with AM/PM indicators.
You can set two alarms, and it can generate a square-wave signal. It uses I2C to communicate. The clock also has a feature to monitor power status, trigger a reset, and switch to a backup power source when needed. It can also respond to an external reset signal.
