To detect color, the TCS3200 color sensor employs 64 photodiodes. This sensor produces a square wave as an output. The frequency of the square wave is used to calculate color intensity. These 64 photodiodes are made up of 16 red filters, 16 green filters, 16 blue filters, and 16 transparent photodiodes with no filters. Each type’s 16 diodes are linked in parallel. To detect a color, the photodiodes associated with that color are triggered.
