This current sensor operates using a current transformer (CT), which is designed for measuring alternating electric currents. When the current in a circuit is too high to be measured directly, the current transformer generates a reduced current that is accurately proportional to the actual current in the circuit. This reduced current can then be easily connected to measuring and recording instruments. Additionally, a current transformer provides isolation for the measuring instruments from the potentially high voltage present in the monitored circuit.
